The crazy slushfest that is the climax of Carnival in the tranquil Italian township
of Ivrea has come and gone and it was as delicious and dangerous as ever.
The main highlight of the festival is the 3 day Battle of the Oranges. Thousands of people
separate into 9 combat teams and hurl oranges at each other. Visitors are allowed to join
these teams, so you can participate too! There are both teams in carriages (often dressed
up as knights) and teams on foot.
Ivrea, Italy
The town is in the provine in Turin in the northwestern part of the country. The battle takes
place in the city squares: Piazaa Ottinetti, Piazza Vittorio Emmanuele, Piazza del Rondolino,
Il Borghetto, and the Centro Storico.
