New York City At Night

A Black and White Big Apple

The Big Apple, the City That Never Sleeps, NYC, my favourite holiday destination, a fantastic city – everyone refers to New York City as something different as this wonderful place actually means something different to everyone who visits.
With an event, parade, exhibition or attraction seemingly taking place each and every day of the year, New York City seems to be continually changing. However, regardless of when you may a make a visit throughout the year, one aspect never changes – New York City at night.

Helen Sear Artworks

Helen Sear is an innovator of sorts. She magically combines art with photography to create intriguing works that have a ghostly element to them. Having been involved in photography for over fourteen years now, she uses her skills to manipulate photos by painting on them using a computer. Her work becomes a veil to look at, and to look through.
“It explores ideas of vision, touch and the representation of the nature of experience, demonstrating an enduring interest in landscape in relation to both the human and the animal body,” says Sear.

Here are the few photos taken by NASA, which includes Space photographs also. Space photography has come a long way since the Mercury missions of the early 1960s. The only photo equipment in Colonel John Glenn’s cramped Friendship 7 capsule was a point-and-shoot camera loaded with Kodak 35mm film.

The art of glorious hood ornaments for ships

The elaborate decorative wooden carvings known as figureheads were found on the prow of ships built between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Many depicted human females or animals, but other designs could be found as well. There had been ornamentation on boats and ships in earlier eras, in Egypt for example, plus in other cultures of the ancient world.

This ship’s figurehead was originally dated to the Viking period, but is now thought to be from between 350 and 650 AD, when the Germanic peoples were expanding in Europe during the breakup of the Western Roman Empire.

A few centuries later, Viking ships often displayed fearsome dragon’s heads on their voyages between around 800 and 1000 AD (middle and right images above).

Temples Of Love - Khajuraho, India

Khajuraho is the second most visited place in India after Taj Mahal. It is a small town famous for its 9-11 centuries temples. At that time 85 temples were built of which only 25 have remained till today. The temples were continuously destroyed by Muslims because of the spicy sculptures. One may see that even animals openly make love here. The name of the town comes from the word "date palm" which used to surround the temples.
